INTEGRATIVE STUDIO – 1 [29-07-2019] VAIBHAV SIR

In the first session of studio I learnt about how I can express my thoughts, a word or a phrase in abstract form using minimal lines and forms. We spoke about the key elements that are required to make a good design.

We saw a tedtalk by Christoph Niemann named ‘you are fluent in this language (and you don’t even know about it)’. In the video, he speaks about how fluent we are in understanding the language of reading images. We understood how we can express words in minimal lines. We were given examples of how we could go about it after which I made some designs. Here are some of my experiments :-

My thoughts when I look out of the window

Mumbai city – since Mumbai is an unplanned city ,I have drawn random lines that represent unplanned city and the dots in the middle represent crowd and chaos(overpopulation)

My happy place

bubbles – When I break a bubble I get a weird sort of satisfaction. The circles that I’ve drawn gives a sense of bubbles bursting. The line represents the level of satisfaction that I get when I burst a bubble

One word description of my bestfriend

Support system – when I am facing a problem my bestfriend always sorts it out and calms me down. The dots are the problems. The scribbles tend to get solved and the problem almost dissolves which shows that my bestfriend is my support system.

Thus, we understand how we can create various compositions using only lines and dots and still add meaning to the abstract lines and compositions.
