We started off this class by talking about the city states that existed before the Greek Civilisation.
A city state possesses its power by its military, area, trade, natural habitats, etc.
In this class we spoke about the Phoenicia portrayed its power through sea. Any city-state that portrays its power through sea is called THALASSOCRACY. Phoenicia was a thalassocratic city state.
The Phoenicians came to capture the region between Mediterranean Sea and Erythean Sea(present Red Sea).
Phoenicia had two capitals between 2500 BC and 550 BC.
-BYBLOS (2500 – 1000 BC)
-TYRE (900-550 BC)
The Phoenicians were the first to develop alphabets. They developed 22 consonants.
Dark Age is the time when a civilisation declines and transition happens. Before the Dark Age, AHIRAM was the king of Phoenicia(before 1000 BC). Sarcophagus is a box-like funeral receptacle, most commonly carved in stone( after the death of a king, their bodies were buried in this)
Phoenicians had a very basic structure (King > Temple > Council of Elders).
The Late Bronze Age Collapse which took place between 1300 BC-1200 BC was the time when civilisations vanished/declined.
