ESSENTIAL SERIES (MIND LINES) [14-08-2019] MITALI MA’AM

In this class we learnt about the different rendering techniques and shading, hatching, cross hatching and scribbling.
Shading is used in drawing to depict levels of darkness of a picture. The different types of shading techniques are as follows :

HATCHING – Hatching is an artistic technique of drawing parallel lines very close to each other to create tonal values.
CROSS HATCHING – Cross hatching is the drawing of two layers of hatching at right angles to create a mash like pattern.
SCRIBBLING – Scribbling is using overlapping circular movements of a pencil. Shades can be achieved by changing the pressure and type of pencil.

We also spoke about the different components of shading. They are as follows :

LIGHT SOURCE – A light source is a source from where light is generating. It can be the sun, light bulbs, lasers,, lamps, LED lights.
HIGHLIGHT – Highlight is the lightest spot or area in a drawing that creates focus in the drawing.
DIFFUSED LIGHT – Diffused light is the light that is scattered and evenly distributed.
REFLECTED LIGHT – Reflected light is the light that is reflected back onto an object from the surrounding objects.
SHADOW – Shadows are used to give a three dimensional effect to a two dimensional drawing.
CORE SHADOW – Core shadow is the shadow that is created when in a place where light can no longer reach.
OCCLUSION SHADOW – Occlusion shadow is the shadow that is created when an object blocks light.
TONE – Tone describes the lightness and darkness of an object.

After this we drew an object and experimented these components on our own.
