In this class we learnt about “GESTALT PRINCIPLE”.
Gestalt principle is the study of an individual’s persception, behaviour and response.
There are five principles of gestalt which are as follows : figure-ground, closure, continuity, similarity, proximity.
FIGURE-GROUND : Figure-ground is a type of grouping which is necessary to recognise an object through vision. It is the perceptual grouping of certain elements.
CLOSURE : Closure means perceiving forms and figures in a complete form even if there is an absence of certain parts. Our brain tends to complete the figure or form on its own even if a part of it is missing.
CONTINUITY : Continuity principle explains how our brain experiences certain similar lines or forms that are grouped together as one.
SIMILARITY : Similarity means that forms that have same or similar characteristics such as shapes, colour, size, texture, orientation can be grouped together.
PROXIMITY : Proximity states that objects that are similar or proximate to each other can be grouped together.
GESTALT SWITCH/OPTICAL ILLUSION :
Gestalt Switch or Optical Illusion is caused by visual perception that usually differs from reality.
We experimented how we can use these principle while creating designs and how it makes our design look more aesthetic and pleasing.
