We started off this class by talking about our relationship with our city and did a critical analysis in this class to develop it in the studio class.
I think the history of a city is written on basis of landforms, perspective of societal events, culture, scluptures, humans, habitat, geography, settlements, trading.
After this we had various group discussions on topics like how did the city come to its being?,what is it made of?,what is the first thing we notice when we go to a new place?,how do you navigate through a city?,etc. Later we wrote an essay on a city we’ve visited to develop it in the studio class.
UDAIPUR : City of Lakes
Udaipur, the historical capital of Mewar is surrounded by the Aravallis from all sides known for its expensive lakes, grand palaces and rich cultural heritage. The City Palace left me spellbound when I visited it. It carries the stylish, decorative and intricate works of the Mughals. The scenic beauty of Udaipur is like a picture with lakes like Udaisagar, Pichola which is known for its boating. The immense beauty of nature and history turns me mad with Kumbhalgarh and Chittorgarh Forts. Dal baati churma ,gewar are some of the very popular dishes that leaves everyone’s mouth watering. There are many markets for the traditional bandhani and lehariya cloth in Udaipur. In almost every restaurants and hotels, there are people performing kalbelia dance or puppet shows. Udaipur is truly a paradise for tourists.
