As a student, I’ve always loved history so I was very excited for the first class of this course.
History is an attempt to register, record, investigate and study the past.
We started with talking about the three stages of stone-age : Palaeolithic Age(old Stone Age), Mesolithic Age(middle Stone Age), Neolithic Age(new Stone Age)
Palaeolithic age :30,000-10,000 BC
Mesolithic age :10,000-8,000 BC
Neolithic age :8,000-3,000 BC
The process by which a society or place reaches an advanced stage of social and cultural development and organisation is called a civilisation.
Neolithic Age was the time when civilisations started. We spoke about how different tools were made in this period and the beliefs that people had. People would often worship nature and statues of women.(Venus of Willendorf)
Sumer civilisation is known to be the oldest in the world along with Akkas in Egypt. Sumerians were the first to make beers, develop measurements, algebra, geometry, wheel, etc.
Jericho, also known as the city of palm trees(present) was the first known town in the world of 20 settlements with perfected building walls.
The epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest written piece of literature(a poem). Enheduanna is the first known poet who lived in the Sumerian city of Ur.
In the first class, we basically discussed about the first known civilisation known to mankind and various stories related to it.
