We started off this class by talking about civilisations in the Indian subcontinent(includes present India-Pakistan-Bangladesh)
The first scattered settlement in the Indian subcontinent started around 10,000 BC.
The oldest known civilisation in the Indian subcontinent is the Indus Valley Civilisation which existed in the Chalcolithic & Iron Age(7,500-10,000 BC). Archaeologists have found remains of the first modern town MEHRGARH(centre point of Indus Valley civilisation) in India(present Pakistan) which is known to be formed around 7,500 BC.
Two examples of chalcolithic age in India are : Jorwe culture and Malwa culture.
Harappan civilisation –
Harappa was discovered in 1826. In 1912, Harappan seals with then unknown symbols were discovered by J. Fleet, which triggered an excavation campaign under Sir John Marshall in 1921/22, resulting in the discovery of an unknown civilisation.
This class was about Indian civilisation and how it came into being.
