I’ve always been curious to know about the various aspects of product design. I always thought that product design was only about inventing new products and getting into the physics and technicalities of it.
But after this class, I understood that it’s not only about making/inventing new products but also iterating the existing product that can solve a user’s problems or address specific needs in a given market. I think product design is not only about making a product or simply about making it look better but also about an attempt to solve real problems for real people by using both empathy and knowledge of the customers’ habits, behaviors, needs and wants.
The process of iterating a product goes in the following steps :
⁃ Empathise with people
⁃ Define the problem
⁃ Ideate a solution
⁃ Build a prototype
⁃ Test the solution
The process of designing a product goes in the following steps :
⁃ Idea generation
⁃ Product feasibility
⁃ Product testing
We were also asked to watch a documentary on YouTube ‘Age of AI’ which covers the ways artificial intelligence, machine learning and neural networks can change the world. This series attempts to demystify the misconceptions surrounding artificial intelligence and show the innovative work that goes into building it.
Though I watched only three episodes of this series,I was so engrossed and interested in knowing more about these technologies.
