We started off this class by learning about a new adobe software ‘INDESIGN’.
Photoshop is for editing pictures,illustrator is for creating vectors whereas indesign is for editing pictures,creating vectors,typography and for making different publications like books, magazines, flyers, leaflets, brochures, zines, posters, comics, newspapers, e-books, presentations, cards, banners, placards, billboards, postcards, flash cards, journals, identity cards, calendars.
The purpose of indesign is to create a layout/publication easily.
In indesign one page has two spreads/one facing page and four surfaces. So a document should be a multiple of four.
• Master page : A Master Page is a nonprinting page that you can use as the template for the rest of the pages in your document. Masterpages can contain text and graphic elements that will appear on all pages of a publication (eg – page numbers)
• To place an image in indesign : press ctrl/command + D
• If a picture appears blurry(go to view>over print preview)
• Margins are kept for binding, negative space and gives an even distribution line to the document. The pink lines are the margins.
• Column gutters are the spacing between two columns. The purple lines are the gutters.
• The primary text frame adds/ removes pages as needed when more text is typed/text is deleted. It can be used for documents that follow a simple flow with text continuing from one page to another.
• A Bleed is the area just extending past the edge of the page, leaving no margin line.
• A slug is an area outside the print that carries information about the printing
• Scissors tool and eraser tool in indesign are same as illustrator.
• Page tool resizes the pages.
• Line tool makes lines.
• Gradient swatch/feather tool(creates gradient)
