In this class we got some of our gestalt pictures. We went out of the class to take more pictures after which we had to do a peer review on the basis of creativity, gestalt principles, photography skills.
Personally I never looked at everything around me so carefully, keeping in mind what gestalt principles it follows but when I started looking at things from that point of view my work became so much more easier. Now the main concern was getting good pictures. I tried to be as creative as possible in taking pictures. I took them from various angles.
After we came back we started reading invisible cities and made a note of certain important elements in a city.
The cities I read were :
• Cities and Memory 1(Diomira) : a rich city, statues of all gods, bringing up the fancy characteristics of this city, physical traits of the city, multicoloured lamps, he talks about the winter settings in the city.
• Cities and Memory 2(Isidora) : staircases,music-art,science, dream city has changed, become a successful city, beginning to get chaotic, the perfection is dissolving(going in the past).
• Cities and the Dead 4(Argia) : deserted area, under the ground(it has earth instead of air), people are dead, buried city.
• Cities and the Sky 3(Thekla) : always under construction(like Mumbai),no time for anything to happen, close minded people,European city, unrealistic.
For our next assignment, we had to make 15 thumbnails based on certain aspects after reading any 5 chapters of the ‘INVISIBLE CITIES’. The aspects were natural elements, geographic location, people, culture, planning and structure, emotions, experiences, perception, history, events, diversity, uniqueness, etc. The judgement criteria’s being Imagination, experimentation, the number of thumbnails.
