We started off this class by talking about the new project. It was to be done in pairs. We got one material each and we had to make a utility-base/functional product from it. My partner was Rhea and the materials that we got was cork and glass. We were allowed to use binding materials for our product but not glue. We were not allowed to buy new items but use old discarded items to make a new upcycled product.
What is upcycling? How is it different from recycling?
Upcycling is the practice of creating a useable product from waste or unwanted items or adapting an existing product in some way to add value. The purpose of upcycling is reducing waste and improving the efficiency of resource use. Upcycling is using various different products to make something new, but not the same product again. Recycling is recovering a product that has been used and putting it through a process to make it into a new version of the same product.
We made some sketches of trays, chess boards, pots, etc.
