INTEGRATIVE SEMINAR -2 (MEENAL SUTARIA) [13-03-2020]

In this class, we discussed our mind maps!We kind of had a review in which we saw everyone’s maps and noted down the points that were common and uncommon in our maps.

Personally, I was very sure that I wanted to pursue Communication design but still it was a fun process for me to dig into some details about two completely different yet complementary fields ie Product design and Strategic design management design. I also understood the difference between a Design’s purpose and its context.

Communication itself is such a vast topic. At times when someone asks me what it exactly is, I have to think for a minute to even know where to begin! I also looked at the mind maps ( for communication ) which my peers had made, and these were my observations-

• Some categories were really well organized and I had a gist of that category in a way that was not confusing

• I came to know more in detail about categories I had not included in mine or had included but not written that deeply about, ie art and illustrations

• Some maps were rigid and as a viewer I was unable to understand what exactly communication design was through these maps.

The common categories in all the maps were branding and packaging,ui/ux,advertising and marketing, art and illustrations, visual communication. The uncommon elements were environmental and typography which I had included as an element in my map. Some people had divided books, novels and zines into further details.
For product the common elements were prototyping, material exploration, sketching, CAD. I think I had pretty much included everything in this map so I could barely find any uncommon element.
